500 Days of Summer 2009 Romance

What I like about this movie:

  • The main actors fit perfectly in their characters
  • It describes perfectly the many stages in a relationship and, mostly, situations that we have all experienced as the male.
  • Very interesting and lively soundtrack
  • There's a scene where a comparisson between expectations and reality is shown side by side on the screen which is brilliant.

Don't miss it !

Adventureland 2009 Romance

Just go see it! And not only because our beloved Kristen Stewart is in it.

9
There Will be Blood 2007 Drama

Movie is good but the story is unpleasant, violent, surrealistic at times and the AWFUL SOUNDTRACK spoils the whole thing.

3
Taking Chance 2009 Drama

Ok. The story shows what happens to those "body bags" after they arrive back to USA from Afghanistan or Irak.
The story is like a long funeral and tribute to those fallen heroes. Emotional at times, too formal and solemn others. It will get at you though in spite of those stumbling blocks.
Kevin Bacon is a favourite at our web so he gets our congratulations as usual.
In summary, really worth watching because of the unusual plot and some moments of very especial emotion.

The Conterfeiters 2007 War

Excellent !

Interesting story about counterfeiting operation during WWII in concentration camps. Worth seeing.

7
The Forbidden Kingdom 2008 Adventure

How ridiculous can a kung fu movie get?

A genre that is overdone and should take a long rest like westerns have. Shame on u Jackie Chan, this is about the worst flick you've ever been in !

3
Hairspray 2007 Musical

The worst musical movie I've ever seen?

An insult to musicals?

Don't know how best to describe this piece of garbage with a pro racial equality pretense.

Dumb !

1
Strictly Sexual 2008 Comedy

Is this light porn without nudity? Seems like at the begining, and it does have some scenes...
But wait, actually it's fun, original, smart. That Staney character, who happens to be the script writer of the actual movie, is a real laugh.

7
Der Rote Baron 2008 Drama

The movie seems a bit slow at first. One wonders if it's going to be a crude and realistic war movie, as has been the trend in these last years, or a romantic/poetic depiction of this folk hero/legend.

As the film advances, one discovers it's both things. There are several sub themes. The jealousy and competitiveness between brothers, the strong contrasting point of views of how the German pilots lived and saw the war as compared to their infantry mud-submerged counterparts, the beauty of the initial sportsmanship displayed by Richthoffen and many other airmen in their practice of war, the love story, and many more.

Perhaps the most appealing to some of us is the gradual turn of things towards the impending tragedy, how the characters seem to express it just in the way they look at each other and how this epic sized hero, well represented by the unknown actor Tomas Koutnik, embraces his fate with a powerlessness and dignity that reflects the whole of humanity's ultimate choices when faced with the inevitable end: play out the role you've been assigned in this life with dignity.

Congratulations to this director, his craftsmanship, the actors, the staff, and let me not forget specially that wonderful Lena Heady who is sensual and sublime!

8
Into the Wild 2007 Adventure

Directed by Sean Penn this is something different for a change. Full of beautiful scenes, reflections on life and society, and an ideal of pure freedom, at whatever cost.

8

Some retards travelling to India. A road movie (can't stand those!). Love India, hate this movie. Had to leave after 20 minutes.

1
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People 2008 Comedy

Very well done. Introduces us to the world of high flying celebrity magazine publishing, set in New York city.

A comedy with romantic overtones.

The typical british-american personality-culture contrast is well displayed. Full of good humour and well acted. Exciting. Highly recommended.

8
American Dreamz 2006 Comedy

A bitter parody of become famous reality shows, so present nowadays. Intricate plot with things like a depressive US president, a terrorism plot, the personal struggle of a young arab between his love of some things american and complying with his mission. All with plenty of doses of humour.

Long list of stars such as Hugh Grant, Willem Dafoe, Dennis Quaid. Tony Yalda is outstanding in his secondary role. The adorable Mandy Moore as usual shines. (Please come back Mandy Moore, we love you !)
